Internships MHA-SF Internships Available!Are you interested in learning more about the mental health field from the leading experts on mental health policy, advocacy and education? Are you interested in learning practical skills for working in a fast-paced and professional nonprofit environment? Do you want to gain solid professional work experience aimed at promoting mental health? If the answer is yes, then an MHA-SF internship might be a perfect fit. Our internship program immerses current college students and recent graduates in the day-to-day operations of a successful mental health nonprofit. From policy and education efforts to effective fundraising and communications strategy, interns can expect to develop pertinent skills that will grow their expertise and understanding of how to promote mental health. MHA-SF is deeply committed to furthering interest and leadership development in the field of mental health.

Interns may apply to extend their internships beyond one semester as well. The following internships are available: Public Policy Intern: This internship focuses on assisting in MHA-SF’s public policy and advocacy efforts to improve mental health in San Francisco. This includes researching mental health information and public policy information, providing assistance to Public Policy Committee and leadership and advocacy trainings, assembling resources to enhance outreach and advocacy, drafting advocacy letters and designing community announcements. Mental Health Education Intern: This internship focuses on developing and updating mental health resource information for the community, assisting in the coordination of mental health education and training events, and other tasks that promote mental health education for the diverse communities of San Francisco. Fundraising/Communications Intern: This internship assists with fundraising and communications efforts including writing mental health communications, grant writing, event planning, research, and other fundraising and planning for organizational sustainability. Event Planning Intern: This internship assists with planning for MHA-SF education and fundraising events including several upcoming community education events and educational workshops including our 2008 Annual Awards Fundraiser. QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate or graduate student in Psychology, Social Work, Political Science, Non-profit Administration or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hard working, creative and detail oriented
- Collaborative working style with ability to work well with others
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, graphic, and database systems
- Commitment to the mission, vision and values of MHA-SF
